A prayer rug is the most intimate piece in the house. It touches your forehead, palms, and knees five times a day, and it's gifted in Ramadan, after Umrah, and at new-home gatherings. Yet most people buy one in a hurry, by looks alone, and discover the difference at the first long sujood.
The right size
The standard size that suits most adults is around 80×150 cm: room to stand and prostrate comfortably without your feet or forehead leaving the rug. Smaller sizes suit travel, and children's rugs run shorter. If you're setting up a home prayer room for several people, a lined prayer moquette usually works better than scattered individual rugs.
Thickness and density: where the difference shows
What really separates prayer rugs is comfort for the knees and forehead. A very thin rug lets you feel the hard floor in a long sujood; an overly thick but loose one sinks and loses its shape. You want the balanced middle: high weave density with comfortable thickness that springs back after every prayer. Run your hand over it and press with your thumb. If the backing shows quickly, it's thinner than it should be.
Material and care
- High-density Turkish weaves combine softness with durability, and they're our most requested
- Choose a weave that doesn't leave marks on the forehead after sujood
- Prefer rugs you can care for at home: regular airing and a gentle cleaner when needed
- Calm colors and traditional mihrab patterns age the most gracefully
A gift that never misses
If you're stuck choosing a gift for a new home, someone back from Umrah, or a retiring colleague, a premium prayer rug is one of the few gifts used every single day, remembering its giver with every sujood. For companies and mosque committees, we prepare bulk quantities at special rates.
Prayer rugs are available at our Dammam showroom in the 80×150 size across a range of patterns. Come feel them by hand before you buy, or message us on WhatsApp and we'll send photos of what's in stock.
