Choosing the right rug size for your majlis

The question we get most, in the showroom and on WhatsApp: "My majlis is so-by-so... what size do I need?" And the mistake we see most: a rug that's too small. An undersized rug in a large majlis chops up the space and makes the whole room feel smaller, no matter how beautiful the design.

The basic rule

In an Arabic majlis, seating runs along the walls, so the rug should cover the full sitting area and reach the edge of the seating — or tuck slightly under it — leaving a visible border of flooring around the rug of roughly 30 to 50 cm. That border frames the rug and gives the room balance.

Standard sizes

These are the most common sizes (in centimeters), and they cover most rooms:

  • 50×80 and 80×150 — entryways and bedsides
  • 100×200 and 100×300 — hallways
  • 150×220 — bedrooms and smaller spaces
  • 200×300 and 250×350 — living rooms and most salons
  • 300×400 — large salons and mid-size majlis
  • 400×500 and 400×600 — large majlis

For very large majlis there are bigger sizes — 500×600, 500×700, and 500×800 — but these come in selected designs only; not every design is made in every size. The easiest route: send us your room measurements on WhatsApp and we'll tell you what's available right away.

Worked examples

  • A 5×7 m majlis with floor seating along the walls: 400×600 is usually right
  • A salon with sofas: 300×400 or 250×350, with the sofas' front legs on the rug
  • Bedroom: 150×220 at the foot of the bed, or 80×150 on each side
  • A long hallway: 100×300

One last tip

If you're torn between two sizes, take the larger one. In our experience since 1991, nobody has ever regretted a bigger rug — but plenty have come back to exchange a smaller one. Measure the room in meters, then visit the showroom or send it over on WhatsApp, and we'll handle the rest.
