Every rug made in a respectable factory arrives with a specification label: fiber type, weight, pile height, stitch count. Most shops never show you that label. We publish it on every product page, because a customer who understands what they're buying comes back. This guide teaches you to read the specifications yourself, in plain language, so you know the real difference between one rug and another in any shop you enter.
First: the fiber, which yarn suits your home?
Polypropylene is the workhorse: it resists stains, humidity, and heavy foot traffic, its colors hold fast, and while it feels less soft than others, it lasts longest in hallways, busy guest majlis, and homes with children. Polyester is the comfort choice: noticeably softer, takes vivid colors beautifully, easy to clean, with good durability although it flattens under heavy traffic sooner than polypropylene. It suits bedrooms, living rooms, and family majlis, and most of our collection is made of it. Blends such as 85% polypropylene with 15% polyester combine the strength of the first with the softness and sheen of the second. Acrylic feels like wool without wool's price or upkeep. And viscose is the luxury fiber: the softest and shiniest with a silk-like look, the most expensive in our collection, and its one weakness is sensitivity to moisture and rough use, so its right place is the calm formal majlis, never the entrance.
Second: total weight, how much yarn per meter?
The weight in grams per square meter tells you how much real material is in the rug. Higher weight in the same fiber means greater density, a fuller feel, and a longer life. Our collection mostly ranges between 1700 and 2400 grams per meter, and the premium viscose pieces exceed 3000. If you find a large rug that is suspiciously cheap, lift it with your own hand: its strange lightness is the reason for its price.
Third: pile height, and why thicker is not better
Here is the mistake buyers make most. High pile feels plush underfoot, but it crushes and flattens with repeated traffic. Short, dense pile is what holds its shape for years. The proof is on our own shelves: our most expensive piece, the French viscose with two million points, has one of the shortest piles in the showroom. Density beats thickness, always. That is why our specifications show two separate numbers, pile height and total thickness, so the two are never confused.
Fourth: stitch count, the screen resolution of rugs
The number of stitches or points per square meter works like your phone's screen resolution: the higher the number, the finer and clearer the pattern and the denser the weave. Good machine-made rugs on the market run between a quarter million and half a million stitches, while the premium class jumps to two million points, a resolution that makes the pattern look hand-drawn. Fifth: a quick test you can do in any showroom
Fold back the edge of the rug and look at its underside: fine, tightly packed stitches mean higher quality. Press the pile with your fingers: if it springs back quickly, the density is good. And ask for the weight and the stitch count. The shop that answers with a clear number knows its goods, and the shop that has no answer is telling you something too.
Sixth: a word about our Eastern Province climate
Humidity here is a daily reality. Synthetic fibers handle it without complaint, but keep viscose away from entrances, bathrooms, and damp spots, and give it your formal majlis instead. That way every piece lives in the place it was made for.
